Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation Postpones 2025 Whistle Blow to Spring 2026

Irvine, KY – The Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation (KSHC) has announced the postponement of its 2025 Whistle Blow event originally scheduled for November 8, 2025.

The annual tradition relies on an operational steam locomotive to host the celebration. In past years, the Jeddo Coal Co. No. 85 locomotive filled this role, but it is unavailable for 2025. KSHC has been preparing another locomotive, Potomac Edison No. 1, currently undergoing work in the organization’s shop.

While there is a possibility the locomotive could be service-ready by the November date, KSHC leadership determined that more time is necessary to ensure the engine is fully tested and operational. This decision also allows participants adequate time to plan their travel and accommodations.

A new date for the Whistle Blow will be announced once Potomac Edison No. 1—nicknamed “Vulcan No. 1”—has completed testing and is ready for service. KSHC expects the event to return in the spring of 2026.
